USPS seeks new revenue through Rural Reach

The Postal Service has a message for employees: There’s new revenue to be found everywhere — even rural areas.

Through its Rural Reach program, USPS encourages rural carriers to help identify new sales opportunities for the organization.

Here’s what you should know:

• Rural Reach targets small-business customers. The program leverages rural carriers’ relationships with their customers.

• Rural carriers find business opportunities. Employees know their customers and what to look for when targeting new business for USPS — not just on their routes, but wherever they are.

One example: Saegertown, PA, Rural Carrier Renee Beatty recently discovered a business customer on her route was upset with a competitor’s shipping surcharges. Beatty referred the company to USPS Sales, which helped the customer move its business to the Postal Service — generating more than $40,000 in new estimated annualized revenue for the organization.

• The program works. Rural Reach has generated more than $10.5 million in revenue since the current fiscal year began Oct. 1.
