For more than a year, Rural Carrier Darla Kelsey devoted her personal time and expertise to single-handedly making the Belton, TX, Post Office a little more beautiful.
She took the initiative to brighten the landscape for the premises, including designing new garden areas and doing the spadework.
“I do it because I like it. I like to see the flowers,” said Kelsey, who views the project as a form of public service. “People will actually … stop, look and admire.”
Her efforts were the subject of a recent feature story in the Belton Journal newspaper, which praised the Post Office’s “stunning display of flower beds and gorgeous landscaping.”
Postmaster Anthony Palomino also is a fan.
“We sure do appreciate her and all the hard work she has done to make it look so beautiful,” he said.
