Windfall, IN, Rural Carrier Angela Kemper-Grimes will be one of 2,200 Hoosiers who’ll carry a torch during a special relay run this fall to honor Indiana’s 200th anniversary.
Each runner will pass the torch along a 3,200-mile route that runs through each of the state’s 92 counties.
“I’ve grown up in Windfall, still live here, and I have family throughout Tipton County,” Kemper-Grimes said.
In addition to the relay run, Indiana also is marking its bicentennial through the recently issued Indiana Statehood stamp.
Kemper-Grimes is a longtime athlete who runs several miles through the countryside each evening and also coaches her daughter’s softball team.
She started as a substitute rural carrier in 2007 and became a regular a few years later.
“I love my job,” Kemper-Grimes said. “I have great customers who look out for me. I love coming to work.”
A customer who came to the Post Office recently to buy stamps called out congratulations to her, and as she traveled her route, several customers waved to her.
“She’s the best mailperson ever,” customer John Lewis said.
