Rural Carrier Meredith Gozdal was delivering mail recently in Drayton, ND, when she noticed that an older customer hadn’t emptied his box as usual.Gozdal stopped and tried to contact the man at his residence, but she got no response.She alerted the sheriff’s office, and a deputy soon discovered that the man was in bed — unconscious and in dire need of medical attention.“Meredith has many senior citizens on her route and she watches out for them, as well as all of her customers, very closely,” said Drayton Postmaster Lyle Van Camp.He added that Gozdal’s son is a rural carrier associate whom she strongly encourages to do the same.The customer was hospitalized and is recovering from the incident.
