Rural Carrier Associate Shelly Stoddard was delivering a package at an isolated residence in Barker, NY, on a rainy morning last winter when she heard someone yelling for help.
She soon spotted an older customer lying on the ground in his driveway.
Stoddard rushed to help the man, who lives alone and had been stranded overnight after falling the previous evening.
The Postal Service employee immediately called 911, located warm clothes stored in his garage and rendered first aid until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital.
The customer’s daughter, who lives out of town, later thanked Stoddard during a visit to Barker.
The man recovered from the incident.
