Rural Carrier Associate Christian Perry was recently delivering mail in Aliceville, AL, when she spotted an older customer in apparent distress outside his home during a rainstorm.
The man, who had fallen in his driveway, was trying to climb into his truck parked there, and he was slumped over the driver’s seat when Perry saw him, unable to lift himself any further.
The Postal Service employee rushed to the customer’s aid, safely helping him stand up and guiding him inside his residence.
Perry alerted the local Post Office, and Postmaster Edwin Virden soon arrived to provide further assistance, staying with the customer — who declined medical attention — until the man felt better and calling his daughter for him.
“Christian acted selflessly and quickly in a situation that many people would drive by and ignore,” Virden said.
