VONORE, TN — As part of the United States Postal Service’s “For the Long Haul” initiative, we are proud to celebrate Connie Bivens, a dedicated rural carrier who has faithfully served the Vonore community for over 34 years and 26 of those years on the same route. Connie’s unwavering commitment and exceptional service have made her a beloved figure in the neighborhood she serves.
“For the Long Haul” is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving letter carriers like Connie, who have become integral parts of their communities. Over the years, Connie has developed lasting relationships with residents, going above and beyond to ensure their mail is delivered with care and reliability.
“At the time of my hiring, I was a substitute teacher and working for H&R Block,” said Connie. “My friend recommended the Postal Service since she knew I was looking for a part-time job. I was hired as a Rural Carrier Assistant on November 3, 1990.”
In 1998, Connie became a regular carrier and began serving on Route 1 with approximately 485 deliveries. “I am very proud of the service I give to my customers,” said Connie. “My customers have become my extended family.”
In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
“Miss Connie, as she is affectionately called by her customers, goes above and beyond in her service on a daily basis,” said Vonore Postmaster Michele Kelso. “She truly cares about her customers and frequently sends them birthday cards, Christmas cards, and even attends funerals of their loved ones. Needless to say, Miss Connie is very well loved by the customers on her 105-mile route that runs through the mountains of the Cherokee National Forest. When she became the carrier on route 1, Vonore had only 2 rural routes. Today, there are 6 routes, but Miss Connie’s route remains one of the most picturesque routes in East Tennessee. She is one of the most dedicated employees to ever work for the U.S. Postal Service. She works hard and is an inspiration to all who know her. She deserves to be celebrated!”
